The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed the window for the twelfth edition of the Pakistan Super League. PSL 12 will be played from 18 March to 2 May 2027, with all eight franchises returning, the board announced on 8 October 2026.
The dates were fixed after consultation with stakeholders following a meeting of the PSL Governing Council in London on 1 September 2026, which was attended by owners and representatives of every franchise.
Eight teams again
PSL 12 will be the second season of the expanded eight-team format. The league grew in 2026 with the arrival of Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz, joining Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.
Peshawar Zalmi will start the new season as defending champions. They won the PSL 11 final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on 3 May 2026, beating the debutant Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets to end a nine-year wait for a second title.
A season of milestones ahead
The window announcement is the first step in the build-up. The PCB has outlined a sequence of events that will follow in the coming months:
- direct signings
- player retention announcements
- a trade window
- the player auction
Dates for each of these, as well as the match schedule, venues and ticketing arrangements, are still to be published.
Building on PSL 11
The board pointed to the success of PSL 11 as the platform for next year. That season introduced the eight-team format and replaced the long-standing draft with the league's first player auction. The final in Lahore drew a crowd of 32,461, which the league described as a record.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the board was committed to delivering an even stronger season after the momentum of 2026, while PSL chief executive Salman Naseer described the window as the starting point for preparations, with the signings, retentions, trades and auction expected to build interest over the winter.
Why the window matters
Confirming dates early gives franchises time to plan squads and recruitment, and gives players and overseas boards clarity on availability. For Pakistan's domestic and national players, the PSL also remains the biggest stage outside international cricket, with the spring window coming at the end of the 2026-27 home season and in the build-up to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup later in the year.
